Four elite British athletes are on the November Athletes’ Athlete of the Month shortlist after a variety of personal achievements. In an athlete-decided award that celebrates both sporting success and personal accomplishments, the four nominees will be recognised by their peers after enjoying months to remember. The nominees are Ben Dijkstra (triathlon), Laura Gallagher (gymnastics), Bryony Page (gymnastics) and Bubby Upton (equestrian).Triathlete Ben rounded off his season in style after a challenging year. He suffered a scaphoid fracture in early June and missed over three months of training and competition, but made two podiums in the Africa Triathlon Cup in November, securing a gold and bronze medal respectively.Laura also returned to competition – but in very different circumstances. She performed on the world stage at the Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships just nine months after giving birth to her daughter. She expressed her performance frustrations online post-event, but to reach world standard so soon after giving birth will have doubtless inspired others regardless.Fellow gymnast Bryony enjoyed a spectacular World Championships, becoming individual world champion for the second time in her career. She also performed a personal best routine and grabbed synchronised bronze with Izzy Songhurst.Lastly, Bubby made an emotional comeback after undergoing spine surgery. After eleven weeks of rehabilitation she was cleared to ride again – a major milestone in her journey back to competition. She was recognised with the Britannia Trophy at the British Eventing Awards in the same month. This month, elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to the vote on the BEAA’s Instagram Story, with the winner to be confirmed shortly. Please note, only the votes of athletes currently on UK Sport’s World Class Programme will be counted.Good luck to everyone shortlisted!
