Four elite sportspeople have been nominated for the British Elite Athletes Association’s (BEAA) Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for January.

Charlotte Bankes (snowboarding), Kirsty Muir (skiing), Jack Shephard (para-badminton) and Tabby Stoecker (skeleton) make up this month’s shortlist following several impressive performances.

Presented by the BEAA on behalf of its members, the award celebrates both sporting and non-sporting achievements, with the winner decided by elite British athletes who receive funding from UK Sport’s World Class Programme.

Charlotte is nominated after she took gold at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Dongbeiya, China. Charlotte was in complete control throughout, qualifying as the fastest athlete and finishing first in both the quarter and semi-finals. The victory was Charlotte’s first since she suffered a shoulder injury ahead of the final race of last season.

Fellow GB Snowsport athlete, Kirsty, joins her teammate on the shortlist after winning her first X Games title in the women’s freestyle slopestyle. The 21-year-old recorded a score of 93.66 on her first run, something the rest of the field was unable to match. A second medal followed for the Scot as she took silver in the big air event.

A double gold medal-winning performance earned Jack a nomination for this month’s award. The 28-year-old triumphed in both the men’s SH6 singles and the SH6 mixed doubles at the SPIRO SPATHIS Egypt Para Badminton International.

Tabby completes this month’s shortlist after becoming the first British woman in 11 years to win an overall skeleton World Cup medal. The 25-year-old secured bronze with a sixth-place finish in the final event of the season in Altenberg, Germany. January proved to be an excellent month for Tabby, as she also won silver at the European Championships in St Moritz.

Elite athletes can vote for their winner by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
