Four sporting stars have been nominated for the British Elite Athletes’ Association’s (BEAA) Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for May.
Success Eduan (athletics), Erin McNeice (climbing), Dan Powell (VI judo), and Callum Russell (para-cycling) comprise the shortlist following another strong month for British sport.
The winner will be decided by elite British athletes who receive funding from UK Sport’s World Class Programme.
Success is included following a stunning performance at the World Relay Championships in China. Making her senior international debut in the women’s 4x100m team, the 20-year-old ran down the Americans, Spanish and Jamaicans in a brilliant final leg as Great Britain took gold.
Having become the first British woman to medal in both the Boulder and Lead events at the IFSC Climbing World Cup last month, Erin earns a nomination for May’s award after another impressive showing at the Bali Lead World Cup. The 21-year-old took gold in a tight contest to secure her third consecutive World Cup medal.
Dan is nominated after winning the IBSA World Championships to claim the first world title of his 15-year career. Victory in the -95KG J1 category was his 15th consecutive appearance on the podium and saw him rise to number one in the world rankings for the first time in his career.
Callum completes the shortlist after becoming the first British male to medal in handcycling as he took a historic bronze in the H4 classification road race at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cup in Italy.
Elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
Good luck to all four nominees!
