Emma Finucane has been named Athletes’ Athlete of the Month for July after winning four gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Emma won the 1km time trial, the team and individual sprint and the keirin in Glasgow, where she made history as the first sprint cyclist to win four track gold medals at the same Commonwealth Games. In doing so, she also became the most successful Welsh woman in the Games history.

Presented by the British Elite Athletes Association (BEAA), the Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award celebrates the achievements of Britain’s elite sportspeople.

It recognises competitive achievements, personal development, inspiring comebacks, charity work, and awareness-raising, and is voted for by BEAA members - athletes funded by UK Sport’s World Class Programme.

Congratulations to Emma and to the five other athletes who were nominated: Angharad Evans (swimming), Max Milne (climbing), Bethany Shriever (cycling), Reuben Ward (gymnastics) and Melanie Woods (para-athletics).

Elite athletes can get involved in choosing the winner of future awards via the BEAA’s monthly member emails.
