We can help when an athlete wishes to make a complaint or is involved in a disciplinary procedure. We can access the appropriate policy within your NGB to discuss the information relevant to you and provide end-to-end support.
Whether you are the subject of a disciplinary or have a grievance with another individual, please get in touch to discuss the matters in confidence.
If you have a broader complaint or concern and would like it elevating, you can contact the team or speak with your Athlete Representative.
Support pathway
So, what happens when you reach out to the BEAA about a complaint or disciplinary? Most importantly, we’ll always try to help.
That might be direct, end-to-end support with your issue through a dedicated Athlete Support Manager, or signposting to someone else who can help you.
We’ll always be there for our members. Find out what happens when you contact us below.
- You contact the BEAA for support, or are referred with consent by your NGB.
- One of our Athlete Support Managers will respond, usually via email, within one working day.
- We will arrange a time to speak to you over the phone to understand your request in your words and ensure we can provide the best support possible.
- If your issue is about your safety or someone else’s safety, we follow statutory processes, which may involve a referral to the police, a Local Authority Designated Officer, or the children’s services. This will be done with your consent where possible, and we will provide ongoing confidential advice and support.
- If your issue is not about safety and we can support you, we ask you to sign a service-level agreement, and provide support or signposting tailored to your needs.
- We may offer mediation to settle a dispute, which you can find out about here.
- If your complaint is a general one, or forms part of a pattern in your sport or beyond, we may elevate that issue with relevant individuals within your NGB, or decision makers within the high performance sport system such as UK Sport.
- If the complaint falls under any of the following topics we may suggest referring this to Sport Integrity. Please be mindful that Sport Integrity are not in a position to manage previously concluded complaints:
- Abuse (verbal and physical)
- Bullying
- Breach of an applicable policy
- Discrimination
- Harassment
- Sexual harassment
- Sexual misconduct
- Victimisation
